Oops!... I did it again
Seattle suffers its second water main break in a week - this time on Eastlake, causing a sinkhole to form, but NOT the fault of construction workers. The University Bridge is closed, wreaking havoc on the traffic in the U-district for the foreseeable future. Luckily, our traffic problems are probably not quite as bad as the Bay Area's. Actually, "the blogs are alive with news from the Bay Area that traffic got better following a fire that collapsed an interchange serving Interstate 880," according to an article on Crosscut.com.
Evidently, people up here are citing this as proof that we can tear down the viaduct and leave it that way...
That's weird that the traffic hasn't been worse in the Bay Area. But as that article points out, it may still get bad once BART is no longer free. Sounds like they're well on their way to repairing the damaged roadways though. In contrast, it seems that our own traffic has actually been quite bad from the closure of the University Bridge. Guess that goes to show how dependent we are on our bridges in this water-encircled city.
